In 2014 Rade were asked by Independence UK Ltd to migrate their existing e-commerce website to a new system. As a mail order company specialising in disability aids they needed to retain their existing customer and product data, while improving the design and functionality of their website.
Magento was selected as the e-commerce platform and a number of extensions were added to provide the exact functionality they required, including vouchers, guest checkout and VAT exemption.
As well as assisting with debugging and providing support to the main developers, I was tasked with the initial data migration of products and customer from the old mi-commerce database to Magento. As mi-commerce uses a SQL Server database backend I was able to do a lot of the data conversion in SQL Server so that I could then export formatted CSV files ready for import into Magento using the existing import facilities and custom import routines only where required.
